National Dog Day is today, Aug. 26. The unofficial holiday was founded in 2004 by pet and family lifestyle expert and animal advocate, Colleen Paige (founder of National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day)
Paige wanted to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledge the family dogs that bring their owners comfort and joy. It is also a day to honor the working K-9’s who put their lives on the line every day for law enforcement, or provide safety for a disabled companion.
1. Adopt a dog from your local shelter or pure breed rescue organization. Volunteer at your local shelter and offer to walk a dog or play with a dog, clean cages or anything else where they need help.

3. Hire a professional photographer to take pictures of your pooch like the folks at Old Town Photography. Check them out they have great specials if you book a session by Sunday by calling 951-834-6248.
4. Buy your dog a fun new dog toy...or two...or five.
5. Take your dog to Country Kennels Dawg Water Park and let them swim in a pool and a romp around a park made just for them. Contact 951-677- 6031
6. Buy a special treat for your pooch.
7. Let your dog sleep on the couch.
8. Take them for a walk.
9. Give them a pedicure for your pooch from a groomer like TNT Dog Grooming in Menifee. This groomer comes to you! Contact 909-203- 9178.
