The snowstorm that blanketed Southwest Riverside County on New Year’s Eve, 2014 will never be forgotten. The rare storm continued to fall in record amounts well into New Years Day 2015. The community hit the hardest was Wildomar and La Cresta.
The following are photos taken on New Years Day in La Cresta. Murrieta horse owner Diane Sedig was checking on her three horses, Zeth, Cody and Jesse who never experienced snow. Sedig was worried the water buckets were frozen and the horses would not be able to drink.
Sedig allowed her horses to run and play in the snow inside a gated field. One horse, Zeth, spent a half hour running from one side of the field to the other before sitting, then laying down and rolling on his back to feel the cold snow against his body.
“This was a great experience for them,” said Sedig.
The time Sedig took to allow us to photograph her horses on a rare snow day is appreciated.

La Cresta residents Mary and Jeffrey Nickerson were out of town when the storm hit. Their dogs were excited to see them come home and play in the snow.

Zeth loved to buck in the snow.
Zeth looked beautiful against the white background of snow.
Jesse the miniature horse tried to run and play like Zeth.
Zeth rolled onto his back and kicked his four legs up in the air to feel the snow on his back.
