MURRIETA: Small farmers throughout the nation are taking a stand to change how we grow and raise food.
This month I am sharing local famer, Paul Greive and his family’s story from Primal Pastures.
Greive served in Iraq in the U.S. Marine Corps. When he came home he and his family were looking at ways to eat healthier. They started by raising their own chickens, which launched Primal Pastures.
Primal Pastures basic concept is to raise livestock as it was done in pre-factory farm days.
Greive is now fighting for his country not in war on foreign soil but in farming locally. Primal Pastures is part of a revolution on food that is taking hold and growing across the nation. The idea is that food is best when it is consumed closest to its source. Today’s new small farmers believe it is important to connect the consumer to their farms and build a stronger more connected food network.
In the documentary Revolution Food, directed by Loreto Di Cesare, Greives said he chose farming because it speaks deeply to his soul. His family is the first generation in farming and they chased an unknown rabbit hole in agriculture.

I took a tour of the farm with others during a community potluck picnic event. What an amazing gesture to open their doors and gather the community around a table of healthy farm raised food. Everyone knew we were experiencing something special and different in today’s fast food world.
Greive said in the movie, “This is still a grassroots movement. We are all about the pastures. There aren’t lobbyists in D.C. supporting us. This is an process where consumers are driven by the concept they vote with their dollar.”
At Primal Pastures customers can order premium grade, healthy and happy pastured poultry, grass fed beef, grass fed lamb, pastured pork, pastured turkey, and pastured duck raised locally, sustainably, and responsibly for healthier families.
Greive and his family have a vision of raising the best meat in the world produced right here in Murrieta, a small, not no small town in Southern California.
