Having a boy or boys is a challenge and a blast. The frog chasing and ball throwing, lego building and endless hours of bouncing off the sofas is all part of raising boys to be solid men, good husbands and attentive fathers. It sure is an adventure every step of the way!
This is Michelle, the publisher at the Sun News and Review. I came across an article today written by a writer named Lisa at the Blog, Club 31 Women. The article was fun and got me thinking of how happy I am to be a mom of a boy. Are you a mom of boys? What do you love about having boys or a boy?
When I first found out I was having a baby I thought I wanted a girl I didn't know a thing about raising boys. I had nieces I helped raise and loved them like my own. Being an aunt to girls is all I knew. I dreamed of being a mom where I played barbies with my daughter and combed her hair and baked cakes with her in the kitchen. My daughter would also be like me growing up, climbing trees and playing sports. I had an amazing mom growing up and I wanted to be like her to my own child. Well God has his own plans and he decided to send me a boy instead. It took me only a half a nano second to hear the news I was having a boy to chuck out the window my plans for a daughter.

However, I had one more prayer to God. I prayed for a chubby faced "Gerber" baby. Well you know that saying, "Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it?" Ya, well God did listen to my prayers and he answered them with a little sense of humor. My son Gregory Jacob, was born at 9 pounds 16 ounces or ten pounds. I had my prayer answered of a chubby faced baby boy. Having a boy is a blast!! The smell of dirt, matchbox cars and army men everywhere. That ten-pound butterball is now a tall lean eighth grader with a kind heart.
He is a patient, logical, well mannered, friendly young man who eats me out of the house and home, grows out of his clothes before the tags come off. He knows how to drive me crazy then giggles to melt my heart. He likes to cook and insists on making homemade waffles in the morning. I am not allowed in the kitchen when Chef Gregory is at work. Well, except for clean up time, he leaves that to mom.
Hope you don't mind I shared a little about the love of my life. I created the Sun News and Review to continue working as a journalist. Journalism is my background and education. However, it also allows me to be a mother to work and live in a community we love.
Enjoy the article. Please feel free to share your stories with Sun News and Review on Facebook.
