The 3rd Annual CKR Memorial Bicycle Ride for Murrieta resident, Sgt. Clinton K. Ruiz will be held Sunday Oct. 18.
The family of Ruiz is holding the 26-mile bicycle ride as a way for the community to remember a local hero who gave his life for his countries freedom.
Sgt. Ruiz, born March 14, 1990 in Poway, CA and later relocated to Murrieta. Ruiz was a 2008 graduate of Murrieta Valley High School. He joined the Army in May 2009 where he served with the 9th Military Information Support Battalion (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, NC and was deployed to Afghanistan. Ruiz was killed by small arms fire on October 25, 2012 in Oruzgan Province, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces.
A highly decorated soldier, Ruiz was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.
Sgt. Ruiz's father Tony Ruiz is part of the JAX family of riders. They are honoring Sgt. Ruiz in a annual memorial ride to show respect and gratitude for the sacrifice he has paid for his country.

The easy paced ride will begin at 8 a.m. at Jax Bicycle Center-Murrieta located at 26612 Margarita Rd, Murrieta, California 92562.
