Temecula: If you have been concerned about the growing homeless population in your community, there is an opportunity to get involved. The Point-In-Time (PIT) Homeless Count is a count and survey of Riverside County’s sheltered and unsheltered homeless population. Riverside County’s Department of Public Social Services (DPSS), in partnership with Riverside County’s Continuum of Care, is committed to conduct an annual count in late January.
The Continuum of Care (CoC) is a network of private- and public-sector homeless service providers, designed to promote community-wide planning and the strategic use of resources to address homelessness. The PIT Count is a one-day street-based and service-based unduplicated count and subpopulation survey of sheltered and unsheltered individuals to identify how many people in Riverside County are homeless and their subpopulation characteristics on a given day. Volunteers are required to complete a mandatory two hour training session prior to the Count. The Count and Survey will take place on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
The project is mandated under a U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development grant.
