This election has been very interesting. Well, I mean sure I have only been alive for three elections, (2008, 2012, 2016) but this is definitely the most exciting.
Since I was a little kid, I have been interested in politics. I have always asked, “Who is that, what is that is that good?” When asked if I wanted to have my own column, I was excited because I can write on a subject that I enjoy which is politics.
Therefore, I have been asked what is important to me in this election and my answer to that is freedom of speech. I know there are a lot of other important things in this election but I have a story behind this.
I recently went to a Republican event in Temecula. I took some Donald Trump signs, a Trump shirt, two Trump buttons and a Trump hat. When I got home the first thing I did was put up one of the Trump signs in my front yard.
Two months later we came back from a swim meet and the Trump sign was gone. Someone who doesn’t like Trump stole it. This isn’t fair because my mom and I have the same rights as everyone who doesn’t like Trump. Whoever did steal my sign did it to create fear and take away my freedom to express myself. This is what this country is all about: everyone expressing their own opinion. We shouldn’t be afraid to speak our mind.
The good thing is at least one of our neighbors likes Trump and asked us for a sign and they placed it in their front yard. So far, no one has stolen it.

I see Trump signs, Trump shirts and plenty of other Trump things around but I didn’t see anyone stealing this stuff.
I think people should be able to share their own thoughts without stealing anything. I believe stealing my sign is wrong because it is against our First Amendment Rights and that sign was mine on my property.
That is why I believe freedom of speech is important in this election.
Remember, the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievance.”
